When Dave Keifer of Cagey House sent me this EP for release, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. It's quite different from his last release on Happy Puppy - for lack of a better description, it's experimental but still very accessible. It was only until I quizzed Dave about what I was hearing did he give me some background on how the songs were composed. I don't want to give away any secrets (you can ask him if you want) but rather you just listen and enjoy the unpredictable pretty nature...
Longtime member Cagey House returns to Nishi with a new 11 track release for us. "Model City" is a delightful album full of playful melodies in his distinctive style. Welcome back, Cagey! favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite ( 1 reviews ) Topics: Cagey House, electronic, melodic electronica
Yes, it's another album by Cagey House that defies description. Literally, every time Dave Keifer sends me his latest creation, I have no idea what to expect. When going through his catalog, each album sounds very different from others, but they also all share a common logic (as I found with his previous release) - an identifiable trait that follows through within its own universe. In other words, just download it and listen. Aloha Moonmen features many layers of playing with samples, and... Topic: ccmusic
A while ago, Dave Keifer released the first album The Cartoon Mouse Regards. This time, he delivered us the second album as his alias, Cagey House. "Musically it's pretty similar to Cartoon Mouse - all the tracks (there are six of them) have the same kind of rambling structures. But I've been experimenting a lot with the sounds I use, and this one has a lot more acoustic-type sounds. It also has vocal samples, which give it an added dimension, and make it a little more accessible." At... Topics: Electronic, Experimental Source: Bump Foot
Once again, we are treated to an album by Cagey House that sounds nothing like the music we've heard before from him. And as usual, we're not going to try and describe it, we'd just like you to listen to it yourself. In fact, this will be the last "Cagey House" release, and we are very honoured that CH gave this release to Happy Puppy. Please share and enjoy. Topics: cagey house, experimental
Happy Puppy is happy to welcome Cagey House (Dave Keifer) to the label with his personal brand of modern classical, experimental and avant-garde music. Dave Keifer has been releasing music as Cagey House since 2005. As he describes it: "The early releases were fairly traditional instrumentals in a “the Ventures play Sun Ra” style. Since then the music has become more free, frenetic, and raw. That said, this particular release is pretty quiet and melodic, with a general air of wistful,...

This is the second release of Cagey House (the third one of Dave Keifer). He shows you another miraclous world. "The idea with these tracks was to come up with things that were fast, loose, and fun. Or at least faster, looser, and more fun that the stuff I'd been coming up with previously. To that end the tempos are generally quicker, and the drums more prominent in the mix. I tried to avoid any soft sounds - anything that seemed acoustic or natural was banished. I also tried to emulate... favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite ( 2 reviews ) Topics: Electronic, Experimental Source: Bump Foot
"These pieces are basically hyper-inclusive, hyper-active collages", he says. Mostly I Like Everything is the fourth album by Cagey House, also known as Dave Keifer. "The source tracks were composed over a period of maybe two years, and incorporate a wide variety of styles. Those tracks were then cut-up and rearranged several times, with as little rational thought as possible." The cover is by Brandi Strickland. Release notes: Cagey House creates ethereal and energetic instrumental music. Cagey House music has been featured on over one hundred alternative-oriented music podcasts, and also used as background, bumper, and theme music on many other non-music-oriented shows. Have had a couple of net-releases through Nishi, Umor-rex, Dog Eared, bumpfoot, and a few other netlabels. B for Breakfast is Cagey House's latest production. The album has varied between being kind of pop/rock-ish and instrumental... Topics: Abstract, Modern Classical, IDM

WeirdAndWired Release 040 - Cagey House - June through the Window Like a bunch of cute little animals let loose in the dark and silent rooms of a concert hall. It sounds so light and a bit accidentally and chaotic, as if the mice are running through the piano, squeeching happily, racoons playing with the drum-set and birds hopping on the cymbals, and a cat on a bike, going in circles ringing the bicycle bell. "These tracks are basically collages, and they all have a kind of symmetrical form. There's a lot of repetition and slight variation throughout. Some are modeled on song, and others are modeled on incantation. All of them are fairly playful, and although there are some sharp edges, they tend to be folded inward." Cagey House has been unleashing strange sounds on the netlabel scene for several years. Each track on this particular album began as a single phrase. Variations (in voicing, pitch and tempo) were spun from these phrases and then dubbed over each other, again and agian, until a kind of delerium set in. Have you ever been in contact with the music of the Cagey House? Cagey House is Baltimore's Dave Keifer. Producing primarily instrumental music, since 1999, and he also experiments with sound collage. A netlabel veteran Cagey House visited Bump Foot. "Which is where things get tricky. The EP is in a new style for me. In the past, I've done what might be called dada-inspired electro-pop. The musical elements were fairly strange, but the forms that held them together were pretty simple - at its best (like The Window Hat, released on Dog-Eared) it was like the Ventures playing the Sun Ra songbook. The new stuff is odder. The forms are very fluid. Hardly a bar goes by without some major... favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite ( 1 reviews ) Topics: Electronic, Experimental Source: Bump Foot
"These tracks are about stasis. "Living Grass on I-70" started as a short percussion solo. I slowed it way down--something like 800%--until the sound became really degraded. Then I kept altering the pitch until the sonic degradations became the main voice in the track. "The Finger Can't See" is an experiment with out of phase repetition, boredom, and annoyance. A year ago, I put out the call for drones - not just any drones, but drones that would be good to make dinner by. The inspiration came from those thematic 50's and 60's "mood music" albums.. music to water the garden by, music to relax by, etc. And I received quite a range of interpretations of what exactly drones would be good while preparing dinner. After all the tracks were submitted and I began putting everything together, I really wanted to have no interruptions between the...
